[[ Continued from Mysterious Enemy ]]
"Ahhh, wot a luvverly day!" The booming voice of Harabec preceded him into Stonearch Inn. Last night's downpour had scrubbed the sky to a bright blue, with only puffs of clouds squeaking across the clean dome of sky. The roar from the falls was louder due to the amount of water that was draining into the multiple branches rivers that met air at the canyon's rim.
Looking only a little worse for the wear, the brawny Kahl was wearing a kilt of deep blue and a sleeveless shirt of pale cream. His fur was freshly washed and brushed, giving his normally shaggy form a sleek fluffy look. Eyes twinkling, he left the door open to let the fresh air peek in tentatively as he strode across the room.
"G'mornin' t'ye all! Ah smell fresh melonbread! Can Ah have some o' that an' a glass o' cider/" Setting himself down at the bar counter he waved cheerfully at the innkeepers. "Have ye been ootside? Tis a braw day oot there, ye ken! Ah'd highly recommend goin' fer a stroll."
Scratching one curling horn, Harabec wondered idly if anyone was going to show up for his proposed meeting. After all, they were a ragtag band at best, most of them not even acquainted. But there was a threat arising, and they seemed the best equipped to deal with it.

[NPC] Nynea Tahlphion "Tch, a fine day, aye, but after yesterday, nigh ev'rone's been too skeered t'be visitin' the Stonearch. 'Fraid 'nother water slug'd come an' spirit 'em away," the barmaid plunked a basket of breads in front of the Kahl while Usre drafted a mug for him. She sighed, leaning against the bar with her arms crossed. Indeed, the inn was very empty. While she was glad for the respite, she couldn't help but fidget a little with suddenly nothing to do. Even the worst of mornings were never quite this bad.

A distant, muffled voice trickled in through the floorboards, stirring the room's occupant from a fading sleep. The mage sat up, bed-headed and bleary-eyed, to gaze about the unfamiliar setting. A bedroom--he must have rented it last night. Hm, yes, there were his belongings in a heap by the bed. Unlike that untidy mess, however, the bed was still made quite neatly. Must've forgotten to tuck himself in. 'Wasn't cold anyway.'
Standing up, he cut a sluggish path to the doorway, picking up his thankfully dry coat on the way and shrugging it on over his undershirt and...were those pants? Kehndin promptly decided that the flayed trousers weren't suitable for today.
The boy stumbled down the last step before making his way through the quiet inn to the bar, absentmindedly plopping himself down nearby the big ol' Kahl. And his melonbread... Kehndin stared. After a moment, he gave a great blink and cast his look about the room instead. Rather desolate. His recollections of last night were still floating groggily in the back of his mind, but he had no desire to try and bring them into a clearer light. It was too early and the day seemed too fair for some of the dark peculiarities that had visited them last night.

Harabec nodded gravely. "Och, yon fight would've scared most off. But don't ye be frettin', soon they'll start coomin' back. Ah ken th' Stonearch Inn is th' most popular in th' city? Ah hope ye don't mind me callin' a meeting 'ere in th' meantime?"
Rolling his broad shoulders, he stretched and sighed, thanking Usre for the cider. Sipping it, he spotted a familiar face trudging down the steps. Sleep walking? But no, Kehn seemed at least semi-conscious as he plopped down on the seat next to Harabec.
He grinned. "Weel noo, Kehn, ye must've slept long. Ye look like ye slept on yer head," Harabec chortled and slapped the young man good-naturedly on the back. "Noo worries, did ye sleep well?" He waved to Usre.
"Mind gettin' mah friend a mug o' this cider too? It'll wake 'im up proper. Thankee!"

Thera really didn't need medical attention, so she had rented a room for the night. In the morning, she did what she could to wash up before going down stairs for the improptu meeting the big Juna proposed. Half asleep, the young Juna came down the stairs and chose a table and laid her head in her crossed arms.

Nuriko led her shaggy mare up the long bridge towards the Stonearch Inn, her favorite stopping place when her family stopped in Cascade City. Now on her own, she headed straight for the familiar. Normally walking with a springy, jaunty step, she almost trudged now. She’d traveled as bodyguard with a merchant carrying some mysterious treasure in the bags of his mule. Nuri rolled her eyes, shaking her head at the foolhardiness of some people, but dismissed it from her thoughts as the Stonearch came into view. She was weary after traveling quickly all week, and last night her employer had insisted on carrying on, instead of camping for the night. She couldn’t wait to get to a bath and wash the trail dust off, and quickened her step.
Ah. The Stonearch, is it? Klah interjected into her rambling thoughts, opening his gleaming eyes, still reclining in typical boneless feline fashion. As I recall, they serve good food there. He sat up, disentangling himself from the nest-platform on the pack built specially for him, startling the stable-lad who had reached for the mare’s bridle. One must always look presentable. He jumped lightly down as Nuri stripped the few packs from the pony before she was led away.
“You’re just greedy, Klah. As for that,” She paused as she arranged the packs on her shoulders, “If you wish to get more food,” she nudged him gently with her foot as she headed into the inn, “maybe you should look scruffy.” Turning from calling over her shoulder, Nuriko stopped in the doorway. The inn’s common room was empty! She looked around the room again, but except for the staff, a juna eating breakfast and two very sleepy looking patrons, there was no one there. Mrr? Klah trotted in, tail up, fur shining in contrast to his companion’s dust. Ignoring Nuriko, who moved into the room, he made a dash for the bar, leaping up lightly. He proceeded straight to Nynea as the person most likely to feed him, and sat neatly before her, tail tucked around his paws. Mrrr? He meowed throatily, whiskers forward in a feline smile.
“Shameless…” Nuri muttered, nodding politely to Harabec on her right as she came up to the bar. “I need a room, please."

{{Hoo...long time, no post. Sorry for its quality.}}
His head bobbed in response to the Kahl's words and...fearsomely friendly pats on the back. "Comfortable rooms here," Kehndin commented blandly, rubbing a shoulder as he took a second look around the room. This proved to be more interesting than the first with the new arrivals, unless he had just missed them initially. Two Juna, both unfamiliar. Turning back to the bar to prop a chin in hand, he caught a glimpse of grey. '...And a cat.'
The young mage was silent for a few more moments before, as if suddenly recalling something, he turned to glance back up at Harabec. "What time is it?"

Sometimes, Archaeon was gone in the mornings--presumably for his own worship and private training. On days such as those Mirai hated to make breakfast for just an empty house, so she was in the habit of making the trek down to the Stonereach Inn and picking up a bite to eat there, before the fireplace. Usually it made the mornings seem less lonely, because even if there was no one the healer wanted to talk to she could always listen in. Eavesdropping was a way of belonging in the life around her, and a good way to make the time pass quickly, but today it seemed that she wouldn't get stuck living vicariously through the patrons of the inn. The girl stopped short in the doorway and looked around at all the familiar faces, a puzzled look taking over her face. "...Morning, everyone. Um....did I miss something?" :/

She couldn't breathe.
It was as if there was no such thing as air. A breeze. The sky. There was only a sickening blue light that wavered around her bulging eyes, laughing with the spiteful voice of falling rain. And the water, clamping tentacles that flicked clouds of crimson from her struggling limbs, holding her tightly, forcing soft, clammy fingers between her lips, down her throat, strangling her screams with slimy kisses.
She couldn't breathe.
But she could see. It slipped slowly from one rainy blue smirk to another, like the water but not quite, a puddle of blackness with an inky star at its core that somehow managed to be darker then darkness, a midnight that drove hooks into her eyes, dragging her closer. It wanted her, and although she knew with awful certainty that it would devour her, swallow her whole, she still tried to fight. All she had to do was tear her eyes away, find her scythe...
She couldn't breathe!
Why wasn't her aura freezing the water? Where was her scythe? Where were her friends, why weren't they saving her? Oh, it knew why. The Midnight Puddle grinned, black on black, opening its starry maw wide... And she saw them. Harabec. Davyn. Kehndin. Audra. Mirai. Frozen in an ivory hell, their outstretched hands razor sharp, beckoning Wing towards her consumption. She couldn't even feel the tears on her face as the Puddle leaned forwards and plucked her almost lovingly out of her watery prison, the teeth that were her newfound friends searing together and tearing her heart from her breast.
She couldn't breathe. She couldn't see. She couldn't think.
She was alone in the water, as the Black Star pulled her in and dissolved her, heart and soul...
Wing's scream seared through the once-quiet corridors of the Stonearch, shattering the fragile morning and causing the local cat's choir outside to yowl in harmonised terror. To Wing's bloodshot eyes, it was a continuation of her nightmare. The entire room, bed, homespun sheets, even the ceiling, was swimming and dancing before her eyes: any moment now, the Puddle would come again and wrap its tentacles around her throat, choking her gasping breathes away until there was nothing left. But as the seconds passed by, each one laying a reassuring hand on her shoulder, Wing realised that the only water in the room was already running down her cheeks, and that sunlight was streaming in through a boldly unshuttered window that revealed a street bereft of darklings. Her shoulders relaxed in a wave of shuddering tears. She was safe. Thank the Gods, she was safe.
And she stank. Stale rain and battle-stench... yuck. No wonder she had had a nightmare. Did Harabec get nightmares too when he went to sleep with wet fur? Wing slid out of bed, making another discovery as her feet touched the pleasant cool of the wooden floor. She had also gone to sleep fully dressed. And how had she got into the room, anyway? Perhaps (Get it off, yuck...) someone had carried her upstairs and (OW! Stupid shirt, stupid laces, stupid long hair!) put her to bed... Harabec? A strand of grey fur flew out of her discarded shirt on its way to the floor. Mmm-hm, Harabec. ( Where's my bag...? Oh, there. Grey today, I think.) Anxiety poked its head through the window just as Wing slipped a new shirt, a woolen grey slip out of her winter stock, over her head. Harabec had been injured... Aaah! Was he okay? The Puddle whipped him so badly: did he get healed? Wing nibbled anxiously on her lip as she hopped about, trying to loosen a stubborn buckle on her skirt. If that Bard hadn't healed him like she had promised... Three things happened in very quick succession. One of Wing's feet hopped upwards a little later then the other, looping around her own ankle and flinging her, surprised 'eep!' and all, into an impromptu forward roll. The initial impact of Wing's encounter with the ground caused her scythe, which had been minding its own business in a quiet corner, pinwheeling forwards to strike the doorhandle, levering it downwards. And Wing continued forwards, feeling a slight pressure against her back as the door tried valiantly to hold her in place. She heard the click of the lock, a rush of air as the door opened, and the world liquified into a kaleidescopic blur of scythe handles, grey wool and ashy hair. "WAAAAAAGH!" Thump, blam, crash, "MEOW!" crack, slam, THUD! A few motes of dust drifted from the ceiling. A pot lid rolled past into the common room, jangling pathetically to a stop. As her wits tried for the second time in so many hours to piece themselves together, Wing gradually realised that she had somehow managed to topple down the stairs and end up, not only unhurt, but standing on her feet with her scythe slung haphazardly across her shoulders and a bemused cat perching on top of a medusa-shaming cloud of bed-hair into the bargain. And, of course, the common room was beginning to fill up. It was all she could do not to burst into tears again. "Um... good morning..."

[[ ROFL that ending scene is priceless Wing. All I can imagine is the room going *blink....blink* at the end ]]
The young mage was silent for a few more moments before, as if suddenly recalling something, he turned to glance back up at Harabec. "What time is it?"
Harabec chuckled and shrugged his broad shoulders. "Ah'm noo sure laddie, tis probably aroond mid mornin'. Time for-"
The girl stopped short in the doorway and looked around at all the familiar faces, a puzzled look taking over her face. "...Morning, everyone. Um....did I miss something?" :/
"Time for mah wee Mirai t'coom in an' have some breakfast!" Harabec finished, beaming at the young woman as she stepped in cautiously. She looked a wee puzzled, but the burly Kahl was at her side in a few quick strides, wrapping her up in a massive hug.
"Good mornin' lass, Ah'm glad ye came. Ye brought th' sun in with ye!"
THUDWHAMBAMMREOOOWSPLAT
Harabec spun around, looking for the imminent attack...if it was someone intending to attack by swinging a cat by its tail and running into walls, that is. To his relief, and imminent amusement, it was Miss Wing, looking a little worse for the wear.
"Och, ye've started a new fashion there Miss Wing, wearin' a cat in yer hair, eh?" Harabec patted Mirai's shoulder and moved to help Wing up.

Thera jumped to her feet, expecting another attack, but found Harabec helping Wing who apparently was attacked by a cat.
"I think most of us would like some breakfast. I know I do," she said.

'Mid morning?' Well, at least he hadn't slept the whole day. But even if he had...it wouldn't have upset him greatly. There weren't many things on the agenda for today.
Kehndin cast the arrival at the door a sleepy look in favor of a vocal welcome, trusting the burly Kahl to give any wanted attention. And...well, the blue sky peeking in behind the girl was more captivating in his view. The weather looked wonderful...clear skies and a warm breeze wafting in. The distant thunder of the great cascades... Ah, there was definitely something on his to-do list now. The mage exhaled quietly, just stopping short of a dreamy sigh.
The loud clatter almost escaped his attention save for the raucous meowing. Turning slowly towards the source, he found himself staring at something akin to a scythe-wielding, cat-faced creature. 'This city is so peculiar,' noted Kehndin bemusedly.
"Och, ye've started a new fashion there, Miss Wing, wearin' a cat in yer hair, eh?"
Oh. Well, the city's inhabitants were peculiar anyhow... The boy stood up, gravitating unconsciously towards the stunned feline. They were good companions for fishing excursions...

But it appeared that Wing's sudden appearance with a cat on her head was not the end of the surprises for that morning. At first it seemed like the sunlight coming in was flickering, like water reflected from a pool of light. Then an oval of glimmering water opened in midair, right in front of the inside of the door. Stepping through this came a creature that at first seemed to have no definable shape. But as it moved out of the oval of light, its form shifted, from tiger to bird to wolf, finally settling on the shape of a stag.
Then it split into two creatures. One a doe the color of midnight, of star-speckled black, with eyes of glowing white. The other, a stag, had a glowing white coat and crystalline antlers, with eyes of deepest black with white glowing pupils. The two creatures stood, opposing reflections of each other, until the stag spoke. Not moving its mouth, but a voice nonetheless, echoing like a whisper in their minds.
We are the Cleon. Messengers of Oranius.
